The Retro-Fit LPR Probe measures the polarization resistance, which approximately relates to actual corrosion rate, of steel reinforcement in existing concrete structures. Probes use Silver/Silver Chloride reference half-cells with mixed metal oxide coated titanium auxiliary electrodes. The probe is retro-fit to monitored manually using a hand held PDCS or cabled to a networked to a Multi-Channel Monitoring device.
Installation
During installation two holes are drilled in to the structure. One is to stall the reference and auxilliary electrodes. This hole is drilled such that it is close to the section of reinforcing in question, but does not disturb the concrete around the bar (ie not to change to corrosivity of the smaterial surreound the bar. The next hole, which is adjacent allows a connection to be made to the bar away from the measurement point. It can also be advantageous to isolted the section of bar being tested by uses epoxy filled cuts of the rebar and surround concrete.
Control Systems
MDCS (Mo
bile Display Control System): The MDCS is a portable battery powered LPR corrosion rate meter for use with all LPR probes. It provides a memory facility for storing readings, and a computer link for downloading data to a PC. Designed for simple operation, the MDCS unit is ideal for carrying around on site due to its small size and lightweight.
Network Controller: This automated control and logging system is large enough to cater for Corrosion Monitoring system whether it includes retrofit probe or imbedded rack probes. Readily connected to networks this system can be programmed to log LPR measurements at predetermined intervals. It can be stored locally for downloading to a laptop at regular maintenance interval or sent through a network via Modbus protocol, emailed to remote locations as an ASCII file readily usable in most spreadsheet formats or any other convenient method.
