CM-2 Rebar Continuity Tester

CM-2-Rebar-ContinuityWhen using Cathodic Protection to stop corrosion on steel reinforcement in concrete, it is extremely important that all the steel rebars are electrically continuous – unconnected rebars will not be protected and are likely to corrode. To verify that the rebars are electrically interconnected you need a suitable measurement instrument. Often a simple Digital Multimeter (DMM) is used, but as it is small potentials between the rebars measured, the resistance measurements of such an instrument is not at all reliable for this purpose.

Alternatively, it is common practice to use a DMM to measure the applied potential (voltage) between the test points instead. But even if a reading of 0 indicates relatively high probability of continuity, it is still an indirect measurement that can make the operator draw the wrong conclusions.

The CM-2 Rebar continuity tester removes this uncertainty! The CM-2 verifies electrical continuity directly, measuring resistance by sending a relatively large current (1 Ampere) through the connection being tested for 0.5 seconds. Then the CM-2 verifies again by checking that the residual voltage between the test points falls to 0 within 100 ms after the resistance measurement is interrupted.

Carrying strap and suitcase, charger and probe for easy rebar contact is supplied with the CM-2. The instrument and the probe accepts common 4 mm banana connectors, cable is not included. Resistance in measurement cables may easily be eliminated through the CM-2's calibration feature.
