About the Event

For a new concrete NDT user the right tool in the right place is hard to choose. For the operator an understanding of the science behind a test method, its interpretation and typical applications are the foundation towards expertise.

PCTE have been introducing new users non-destructive testing and ground penetrating radar in concrete for more than 15 years. Our new user day is everything we believe a beginner to NDT needs, context, operation and theory together.

You will learn about Rebound Hammers, Cover Meters, Concrete Scanner GPR, Corrosion Tests and Ultrasound testing for defects straight from the 4 most experienced team members at PCTE.

Agenda

May 28, 8.30 aM - Online or Silverwater NSW

8:30 am - 9:00 am

Welcome

9:00 am - 10:30 am

Cover Meter Theory and Operation

William leads an introduction for anyone who uses a cover meter. Learn the correct operating mechanisms, how to locate reinforcing steel and the additional steps to correctly and accurately measure cover.

10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Concrete GPR Scanning and Mapping

GPR is the most popular and flexible tool for Concrete scanning and visualisation of embeded objects. Huw and Joel will explain the physics behind Ground Pentrating Radar, demonsstrate scanning and show the power of digital maps and post processing.

1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Rebound Hammer Testing

An overview of Rebound Hammers, and how to best use them. Explore the operation of a "Q" Silver Schmidt hammer, and how they differ to an "R" O. Understand how to measure a relative strength, MPa conversion and data logging features.

2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Half Cell Potential Mapping and Corrosion Tests

Electrochemical mapping techniques such as Half Cell Potential are vital tools in assessing the real condition of concrete structures exposed to environments that promote corrosion. Learn data collection and interpretation of HCP data with Reuben and an overview of corrosion investigation.

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Ultrasonic Testing Methods

Ultrasonic techniques are the most apropriate to locate voids and defects in concrete. This presentation will explain the defects to look for, how Ultrasonic and Seismic techniques may be used and provide a guide for which technology to apply when.
