The degree of compactability of fresh concrete can easily be measured by using the UTC-550 Degree of Compactability (Waltz) Container. It includes a 200x200x400mm metal container with two carrying handles. The entire unit is coated against corrosion.

In the 1950's, the United States developed a fast alternative to the slump test, known as the Kelly Ball test. The test is straightforward and inexpensive and can be quickly executed on in-place concrete. The results can then be correlated to slump.

The UTC-0570 Kelly Ball Apparatus consists of a 152mm diameter ball which slides through a frame that rests on the fresh concrete.

The compaction factor of concrete with low, medium and high workability can be determined by using the UTC-0580 Compacting Factor Apparatus.

The apparatus consists of two conical hoppers that both have a hinged trap door attached to the lower end. This allows the concrete sample to flow freely into the cylindrical mould. A rigid steel frame holds the hoppers and mould, which can be easily removed for cleaning.

Vebe Consistometer

The UTC-0560 Vebe Consistometer is used to establish the consistency of fresh concrete by subjecting the concrete specimen to vibration after the slump cone has been removed.

The assembly is mounted upon a small vibrating table operating at a fixed amplitude and frequency. The concrete consistency can be determined by the time required to complete the vibration.

The Vebe Consistometer is supplied complete with:

  • Vibrating table
  • Slump cone
  • Graduated rod with transparent disc
  • Filling funnel
  • Tamping rod
